Capabilities and processing
Enter a domain or one or more IP addresses. Our server follows the CNAME chain, reads the A and AAAA records, and looks up the network that announces each address: autonomous system, organisation, country and reverse DNS.
A bare domain is looked up together with its www name, because the two are often hosted differently. Private, loopback and other non-public addresses are named as such.
Example workflow
On the sample domain, www resolves to a CDN network while the bare domain resolves to a cloud network. HTTP checks are needed to establish redirects or whether the same origin is exposed.
Limits and interpretation
The announcing network may be a hosting provider, CDN or shared network; it does not prove who operates the website or identify a hidden origin. Country is network registration data, not server geolocation. Sample answers use documentation addresses. Nothing is stored.
