# Broken Link Checker

Check every link, image and script on one web page for broken targets, redirects and timeouts, with where each link sits on the page.

## Capabilities and processing

Enter the address of one page and press Check links. Our server fetches the page, finds the links, images, scripts, style sheets, frames and media in its HTML (up to 300 unique addresses), and requests each one without cookies: HEAD first, GET when HEAD is refused, following redirects, 8 seconds each and about 45 seconds in all.

Every address gets its status, where it sits on the page (navigation, header, main content, footer), its line in the HTML, the final address when it redirects, and the time it took. Broken links come first, then those that could not be checked, then redirects. Email, phone, script and same-page links are listed but not requested.

## Example workflow

The sample shop's home page has two dead product links, a missing help page and a link to a host that no longer exists, plus three links that redirect and a partner site that times out. Break it shows a page that answers 404, a page with no links, a page that times out and a host that does not exist.

## Limits and interpretation

One page is checked, not the whole site. Links a script adds after the page loads are not seen. Some sites refuse automated requests: a 403, 429 or timeout is shown as "could not check" and may work in a browser. Pages behind a sign-in are checked as a signed-out visitor sees them. Nothing is stored.
